Voltage Limiter Units VLU
Widap VLU resistors (Voltage Limiter Unit), also known as OVL (Over Voltage Limiter), protect the DC link of traction converters against critical overvoltages and voltage peaks. Excess electrical energy is safely dissipated through the resistor and converted into heat, effectively protecting sensitive power-electronic components.
VLU resistors can also be used for the controlled and safe discharge of the DC link, for example during vehicle start-up, shutdown or maintenance procedures. Resistance value, energy absorption, power rating, cooling method and mechanical design are adapted to the specific traction system. Depending on the project, solutions with natural or forced cooling and for roof-mounted or underfloor installation can be provided.
